A midweek game saw Portland's first loss, while Saturday brought another win at home, adding another clean sheet to the season.
Couldn't overcome San Diego
After the thrill of the win against Seattle, the Thorns didn't look even near themselves in the midweek game against San Diego.
The Californians attacked mostly through Portland's right flank, which meant that Marie Müller stayed pinned for most of the game, trying to stop Dudinha. Added to that, it was difficult for Müller to carry the ball forward as she's used to.
It was difficult for the Thorns to connect passes, and although they can do much with little possession, this time it didn't work in their favor. They couldn't find a way to get at least a point but somehow, the final score didn't leave such a bad taste in the mouth.
And against Kansas City?
No doubt KC is suffering from the absence of Claire Hutton and Temwa Chawinga. The Current is unrecognizable, as was the case last Saturday.
If we talk about formations, Portland went out with a 4-2-3-1 as the graphic shows below.
