Portland Timbers Head Coach Marti Cifuentes announced at today‘s training session that Timbers right back Brandon Bye suffered a torn ACL during the match against San Diego FC on Wednesday, August 19, per Adam Susman and Jeremy Peterman. Bye was forced off in the 61st minute of the match.
Bye joined the Timbers as a free agent signing ahead of the 2026 season the after a seven-year spell with the New England Revolution. Bye also suffered a torn ACL in the 2023 season with the Revs.
Bye made 20 appearances across all competitions in the 2026 season, totaling 1,698 minutes played in the green and gold in 19 starts and one substitute appearance. He scored one goal tallied three assists, and had a 79% pass completion rate.
Bye's injury means that the Timbers are now out their top-two right-sided fullbacks on the depth chart, with Juan Mosquera recovering from knee and ankle procedures done in July of 2026. As of writing, no approximate timeline has been given by the club regarding Brandon Bye's recovery.
With the injuries to Mosquera and Bye, the Timbers will rely on the services of Eric Miller and Sawyer Jura for the time being. Timbers General Manager Ned Grabavoy will likely have be active in the transfer market to provide cover at such an important position in Cifuentes‘ system.
Stumptown Footy wishes Brandon Bye all the best in his recovery journey.
