Today, the Portland Thorns have announced the club and Head Coach Rob Gale have agreed to part ways.

Gale took over at the early stages of the 2023 season for Mike Norris. He led the team to consecutive playoff appearances, including a 2025 semifinal appearance -even after the team dealt with a ton of adversity. In all competitions, his record was 28-21-10 in nearly two seasons.

“We are grateful to Rob for his dedication to the Thorns and the positive influence he has had on our players and staff,” said Thorns General Manager Jeff Agoos. “We thank Rob for his contributions and wish him the best in his next endeavor.”

Also departing the club is First Assistant Coach Adam Day.

Assistant Coach Sarah Lowdon will serve as interim head coach.

The search for the team's next permanent head coach will begin immediately.
