Since being drafted with the No. 5 selection in the 2023 NWSL Draft, Reyna Reyes has continued to elevate her game and become a building block for the Portland Thorns.

Today, the club announced that their star defender has signed a massive four-year extension through 2030.

She was a pending free agent in 2027, and only had one season remaining left on her contract before the extension. This was a huge priority for Portland Thorns - the front office of Jeff Agoos, Lucy Rushton, and Angus McNab made sure to lock down their standout fullback.

“This extension speaks volumes for my belief in this Club’s future and the Club’s belief in me,” Reyes said. “Staying in Portland and performing in front of our devoted fans excites me, as does watching our team develop. I look forward to bringing home a future NWSL Championship and NWSL Shield!”

“Reyna’s growth as a player and as a person has been incredible to witness and we are pleased to extend her future with the Thorns through 2030,” President and General Manager of Soccer Operations Jeff Agoos said. “She has established herself as one of the best in her position across the league, constantly showcasing her dominant defensive prowess along with an ability to contribute on the opposite side of the pitch. Reyna’s unwavering commitment to our Club is inspiring, and she helps drive the culture we are building here in Portland. This extension is not only a milestone moment for us, but a reflection of our belief in Reyna who understands what it means to be a Thorn.”

With the Portland Thorns, Reyna Reyes has made 79 appearances (55 starts), and has blossomed into one of the best fullbacks in the league. Alongside Marie Müller in 2026, the club will have one of the best duos in NWSL.

Internationally, Reyes dreams of competing in an Olympics and World Cup with Mexico. For the Selección Nacional de México Femenil, she has already earned 20 appearances and a starting role.

This was a move the Portland Thorns needed to get done and they accomplished just that. The left side of defense is now protected and solidified for future seasons.
