The Portland Thorns have started the season with consecutive shutout wins and now take on the San Diego Wave, looking to make club history.
Here's the roundup of the news:
Portland Thorns and Utah Royals agree to loan
Alexa Spaanstra made her first appearance as a second half substitute. for the Utah Royals on Sunday against San Diego Wave.
The loan deal was announced on Sunday by both clubs. The short-term loan will run through July.
How did it come to be? Robert Vilahamn shared in the prematch media availability.
"It was actually that quick," said Vilahamn. "We were picking the roster, she was outside the roster. We had a training that she had participated in on game day. In the morning I had a meeting with the president and recruitment, we had a question from Utah [Royals} on short-term loan."
"What's the best for her? What's the best for right now? For her right now, it's best to get more and more minutes."
Could the team be looking to add a new player at the position? Not likely.
"We don't look for any new players at that position, because we kind of have an overload there. We have really good wingers that are coming back this season and we added college players. We have really good numbers and support in those positions."
