Do you remember when Portland Thorns vs North Carolina Courage used to be this huge NWSL blockbuster? Yeah, nice times... or maybe not. I still remember (and players such as McCall Zerboni and Crystal Dunn do as well, according to what Zerboni commented in this match) the time when the Courage beat Portland 6-0 at home.
However, those matches were the games to watch – along with Cascadia rivalries, of course. So it was a shame the rivalry between the winningest teams in the NWSL (seven titles each) got lost big time over the past few seasons.
Despite that, the last encounter between these two teams showed some glimpses of the past... or at least that was the case in the first half.
