The Portland Timbers followed up an energetic, passionate, and determined comeback on opening day win with a lethargic, disorganized, and disappointing 2-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids on the road. Marked by scorned big chances, boneheaded decisions, and a general lack of coherent fight, the boys in green (yellow?) suffered their first loss of 2026 in dispiriting fashion.
Sigh. And so it goes.

Here's some takeaways from the match that was:
"Concepts of a plan", poorly executed
My sincerest apologies for pulling a quote from one of our least-favorite people right now, but it really does fit the brief. Yes, the Timbers actually did have a plan for trying to attack the Rapids. But nobody wearing Civic Stadium kits executed it very well at all on Saturday afternoon.
"Basically, our whole idea of how we wanted to hurt these guys, we didn't ever really get to that point," shared midfielder Cole Bassett, who had a pretty rough homecoming to his former club, after the game. "We rarely did that. We rarely hit them in transition. There were a lot of things that we talked about before the game that we just didn't do in the game."
