One of the most important priorities for the Portland Thorns in free agency was to bring back their Canadian international midfielder.
Today, the club have announced just that - Jessie Fleming has signed a contract extension through the 2028 season.
"Jessie has been instrumental to everything we've built on and off the field,” said President and General Manager of Soccer Operations Jeff Agoos.
“She's one of the best midfielders in the league and a tremendous leader whose professionalism, competitiveness and commitment set the standard every day. Extending Jessie through 2028 is a significant step forward for the Thorns in our pursuit of an NWSL Championship and we're thrilled she'll continue to be a cornerstone of our roster.”
After being acquired via transfer from Chelsea in January of 2024, Fleming has been open about her difficult adjustment period to the NWSL. However, she has blossomed since, becoming one of the most reliable and key players for Portland.
In 2026, Jessie Fleming is one of three remaining ironwomen, playing all 1,350 minutes this NWSL season.
Internationally, she is the captain of the CANWNT and appeared in three World Cups (2015, 2019, 2023) and three Olympic Games (2016, 2021, 2024) - including the country's historic gold medal in 2021.
The Portland Thorns will now have Olivia Moultrie (2029), Nina Nijstad (2029), and the CANWNT captain (2028) as their trio in midfield moving forward.
