The Portland Thorns took care of business on Decision Day, defeating the Houston Dash in a drama filled afternoon 2-0.

And while Sophia Wilson recorded the brace for the Thorns, they weren't the only team at the top of the table who get it done, meaning Portland secures the 6th seed in the NWSL Playoffs.

The Thorns will head to Rowdy Audi Field to take on the Washington Spirit in the NWSL Quarterfinals – but first let's recap everything that happened in today's regular season finale.

Lineups & Prematch

A complete roster was available at Robert Vilahamn's disposal this afternoon, aside from Olivia Moultrie and Bella Bixby who suffered season ending injuries earlier this season.

Vilahamn opted to keep Pietra Tordin on the bench this afternoon, and instead we got to see Reilyn Turner and Sophia Wilson up top together for the Thorns. A pairing that with Turner's injury and Wilson's suspension we have not gotten to see a whole lot this season – but one that held a lot of anticipation coming into the 2026 season.

Highlights

3' Houston knocks first

The attack by Houston is batted away by Mackenzie Arnold, but still earns the Dash a corner early. No damage is done, but an early sign of an unsettled defense for the Thorns.

8' and second

Another opportunity for the Dash, this one comes a bit closer but lands just wide of the Portland goal.

13' Portland on the attack

Caiya Hanks and Sophia Wilson combine for shots in the 11th and 13th minutes, nothing too threatening for Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell but it still opens up the spread for the Thorns who have had little action offensively thus far.

32' alarm bells ring, Thorns stay safe

A one on one opportunity for the Dash offensively, Sophie Schmidt versus Arnold – and Arnold is victorious, as Schmidt takes her shot right at the chest of Arnold.

34' MAKE IT 14 FOR SOPH!

The Thorns strike first, and while it's Wilson who finishes it off it is a thing of beauty by Hanks and Turner to get the ball to their team's leading scorer.

And with her 14th goal of the season, Wilson has now tied her single season best.

40' Hanks wants more

Who else but Hanks, who gets two shots off for Portland in both the 38th and 40th minute for Portland. You can't help but think it's only a matter of time before she finds the back of the goal and extends this lead for the Thorns.

41' Perry earns a yellow

Jayden Perry is the aggressor in the 41st minute, earning herself a yellow card in the attempt to slow down the Dash attack – which she does successfully.

46' triple sub Thorns

The second half will have a bit of a different look for the Thorns, who opted to bring some new personnel onto the pitch, and make some adjustments to their formation.

Morgan Weaver replaces Marie MΓΌller, and Pietra Tordin comes on for Reilyn Turner. MA Vignola replaces Carolyn Calzada, but takes over the left back position for Portland and pushes Reyna Reyes to the right side.

49' no quit for Houston

A very similar look to how this game began for the Thorns, the Houston offense challenges the Portland defense – forcing Arnold to make some stops, as the Thorns look to settle back into this one.

59' Defense makes some offense

Left back MA Vignola delivers the ball on a silver platter to center back Jayden Perry in the final third, but JP puts a little too much on the header and sends it long of the Houston goal.

61' PK PORTLAND

A testament to just how dangerous the Portland Thorns are in transition, Caiya Hanks draws the foul in the box earning Portland their seventh penalty kick of the season.

It is Wilson who steps up to take the kick, but for the first time in her professional career is unsuccessful from the spot. But after VAR review it is determined that there was encroachment in the box from Houston, not on keeper Jane Campbell, but on Lisa Boattin who enters the box prior to Wilson's contact on the ball.

Giving Portland another chance from the penalty spot.

70' WILSON BRACE

Well folks, she doesn't miss twice. On the retry Wilson is successful, setting a new single season goal record for herself (15) and doubling Portland's lead, 2-0.

70' Portland subs

After all that, Portland opts to make another sub bringing rookie Renee Lyles onto the pitch for Caiya Hanks. A scoreless afternoon for Hanks, but an impact that goes beyond the stat sheet having created both of Wilson's goal scoring opportunities today.

83' Portland's final sub

Robert Vilahamn makes an exchange in the midfield, bringing Cassandra Bogere on for Nina Nijstad.

Final Thoughts

It definitely wasn't perfect, but the Thorns have executed in their last two games of the regular season. Two straight shutouts, a healthy roster, and then you have Sophia Wilson – the sky may be the limit for the Portland Thorns in the NWSL playoffs.

See you next week, Thorns fans.
