For the first time in over a month, the Portland Thorns will return to NWSL regular season play.
In the first match back from the international break, Racing Louisville heads into Providence Park.
Here's everything you need to know before the rematch:
Sophia Wilson Contract Extension Updates
The Portland Thorns are making it clear, they will do everything to bring USWNT forward Sophia Wilson back.
“Our objective clearly is to re-sign Sophia.”
President and General Manager Jeff Agoos spoke with Meg Linehan of the Athletic earlier this week.
“We’ve been working with (Wilson) for the better part of five or more months to try and get a deal done where she’s committed to Portland for the long term."
“We’re doing everything we can to put together a package that speaks to the importance of Sophia and what she means to the team, both on and off the field,” Agoos said. “We don’t think that this is a competition, understanding where other teams are, where her value is. We’ve made her a really aggressive offer.”
Linehan mentions Denver Summit as another possible option, but has not heard about other options.
There is no timetable listed for the extension.
Media Availability with Robert Vilahamn and M.A. Vignola
Head Coach Robert Vilahamn discusses a wide range of key topics including:
- Moving into the new training facility
- Injury updates for Reilyn Turner, Carolyn Calzada, Mimi Alidou, Caiya Hanks, and Morgan Weaver,
- Midseason takeaways - What has worked and still needs to be improved or cleaned up
- Competition at the six
- The summer transfer window
- Coming back to Providence Park
Reinforcements on the way?
"Very good discussions. Very good awareness of who we lost to Man City (Sam Coffey) and where we are. We're working on extensions to stay strong for a very long time."
"We are definitely looking at someone in a key position. Owners are very much looking into investment into that position. Who knows what will pop up soon."
Key for the second half of the season?
"I want to make sure we can handle opponents press better. We can break their press and attack. Put our attacking phase even more and create more chances into those spaces."
Competition at the six?
"She (Jennie Immethun) is very much competing with Cassie on a daily basis... Let's see tomorrow who is starting, but you will see them quite much - I would expect that."
